I have a question-and-answer-based website https://example.com
built on WordPress using the Discy theme, and I have a lot of category and tag pages generated. I also have the Yoast premium plugin
installed on my WordPress website which produces a separate sitemap for question category and question tags pages. The problem here is I have submitted all my XML sitemaps
to the Google search console
and Google started indexing them. But in my understanding, they don’t bring any value to my WordPress Q&A website with their indexing as I only want my questions to be indexed and appear in the Google search result pages (SERP
). I am thinking about it as the category and tag number is going to be increased soon so a separate page for each category and each tag is created and its number increases too. I fear that it might down my website ranking in SERP if a large number of categories and tags pages got indexed in the Google search console. Please advise what should I do in this situation. Do I noindex
category and tag pages in the WordPress site? Also, what should I do with the XML sitemap, how can I stop generating XML sitemap for categories and tags pages in my WordPress site? Also please advise what should I do with the already indexed categories and tags pages in the Google search engine. I don’t want them to appear in search results.
