I observed an error There are multiple H1 tags on the page
reported in Bing Webmaster
under the Top Insights
section for my WordPress site example.com.
Almost on every page except pages like the home page and others, I noticed that there is a double H1 tag
present. One is for the title of the page and the second one is for the WordPress Editor that I made available and turned ON for answering/replying to questions on my Q&A-based website.
So, on pages where this editos is available reported multiple h1 tag
errors.
The first h1 tag
is for the obvious Title tag and default for title text on wordpress.com
based website themes.
title
The second h1 tag
is for the link icon inside the WordPress editor available on website pages for users to comment/answer/reply to questions.
Insert/edit link
I discussed this issue with the Support team of Q&A based WordPress theme named Discy theme and got to know the 2nd h1 tag
can be resolved by turning off the WordPress editor on my site and relying on the Text editor instead to remove second h1 tag
on website pages.
But I don’t want to remove this WordPress editor having many functionalities and want to keep it as it is on the page for the users to answer/reply to questions.
Please suggest if is it good or bad to keep multiple h1 tags
on website pages. Does it harm the SEO of my WordPress site?
I can see the recommended action suggested by Bing:
Recommended action:
Remove redundant
h1 tags
from the page source, so that only oneh1 tag
exists. These pages have more than one
h1 tag
.Multiple h1 header tags
might confuse search engine bots and website users. It is recommended to use only oneh1 tag
per page. But, rather I found one video on Youtube regarding the usage of double H1 tag on the website page.
